Hail My Wonderful Warlocks,

I apologize for the update about farming for The Tomb of the Lost Legion; however, it has recently come to my attention that Blizzard made a small change to looting system that we, as warlocks, weren’t informed about. To say I’m disappointed about this new loot style mechanic is a small understatement because had I known about it being added my last post would have been completely different and probably a lot more informative. I learned my lesson though, and so now I no longer plan to actively to farm for a tome. If it happens, it happens, but until then I’ll actually go and do something more productive like farm valor and gear.

So what is this new mechanic on looting the tome you ask? Well, it’s rather simple and you may want to sit down for this one. The new looting mechanic is called, “first to click”. That’s right. First to click. It doesn’t matter if you’re the first person to tag a rare elite mob or not. It doesn’t matter if you do all of the work in bringing this elite mob down either. All you need to do is run up and tag the mob, and when it dies then the first warlock to click wins the tome. It really is that easy. Do I like this? Not at all. If you got your tome already then congratulations and I’m very happy for you. I really am :)

For the rest of us I’ll be posting my new and revised farming tips (tongue-in-cheek style) near the end of this post.


Why my last post was way, way off

Again I apologize for my misinformation from my last post. You see, I relied on the fact and the assumption that Blizzard wasn’t going to change any type of looting mechanics. I mean with an important drop like The Tome of the Lost Legion they could have at least inform us of this new “first to click” system, right? Nope, they didn’t. Like all of you, common sense prevailed and I thought it was going to be like LFR where a boss dies, the computer rolls through a random number generator and you either get lucky and win or you don’t.

I also didn’t know the developers would deviate from the typical “you tag it, you bag it” distribution of loot as well and go with a “Free For All” for anyone who can reach and tag the mob. I even believed for the longest time (when others told me about the rumors of “first to click”) that Blizzard wouldn’t do something like that since it didn’t seem fair. Common sense would lead you to believe that getting a tome would all boil down to an individual’s RNG roll. So in a sense, two warlocks could tag one of these rare and elite mobs and when the mob died, an individual roll for each player would occur. If this was the case, then there were four potential outcomes. Both players could win a tome, or the first out of the pair could win while the second didn’t, or the second warlock could win while the first one didn’t, or they both simply lost and didn’t score a tome drop. Nopers, this is not the case.

The real fact with this new system is that only one tome can drop from a mob and it’s a PvP style looting fight from there. Remember: First to click wins. This is why my last post was so grossly incorrect. I strategized and planned on helping yourself and other players in the process. Instead, be greedy. Be very, very greedy.



Shades O’Grey always gave me hope with the line “I punched a pony in the face…”

For some reason, when I learned about how the looting for the tome worked I immediately thought of Anne Stickney, aka Shades O’Grey over at WoWInsider. Why Anne you ask? Well, I used to hear her all the time when she was a host on the All Things Azeroth podcast. Whenever the show began, Medros (the other host of the show of course) would ask her what her what she had been up to while playing the game over the past week. Anne would always begin with her optimistic phrase, “Well, I punched a pony in the face and…”. For those of you who don’t know what she meant by that line, Anne was working on trying to get Attunmen The Huntsman’s Fiery Warhorse’s Reigns. Anne knew that the chances of the mount dropping were low, and like all of us who bought into the idea and accepted low % drop rates she accepted that fact because she understood the looting chances at gaining that rare mount were the same as everyone else. It was a long shot, but it was a fair chance and she remained ever faithful and diligent to get that mount.

I can’t even remember how long it went on. Every week, I’d hear Ms. Stickney’s cheerful and optimistic voice as she started the show off by saying, “Well, this week began when I punched a pony in the face…”. Her passion and her happy-go-lucky personality is infectious and so with my own fingers crossed, I’d listen intently and nervously to find out what happened next. Even with all of the times that the mount never dropped for her, she still kept up an admirable and persevering attitude. Ms. Stickney would then explain that she wasn’t going to give up trying to get that mount and so she would continue to punch a pony in the face each week until it was hers. When Shades announced she finally got her mount, I was elated and cheering for her in my car.


For some reason, when I learned about the way the tome loot mechanic had changed I could only wonder how Ms. Stickney would have felt if her rare horse dropped, but instead she missed out on the getting that beautiful mount because another player ran up and looted the corpse faster than her. What if that player even used a loot macro to beat her to it? What if the other player got the loot simply because they had less latency? It was at that moment when I knew my quest for green fire was over. Well, at least my active seeking to camp it or waste hours in trying to farm it because I don’t like the idea of killstealing loot from another player. You can call me a carebear or whatevs, but spamming a loot macro over a mob just as it dies is not my idea of fun nor rewarding. Even if such activity did reward me eventually with a much sought after tome.

For the tome, the first to click loot rules are a game changer and I thought you should be aware of it. In fact, I don’t think it was announced anywhere until I asked the question. I hope Ms. Stickney isn’t angry that I brought up her name to use as an example of where fair play pays off. I only bring her up because many of you know her, and you know her story, and so you too probably cheered for her like me when the rules of RNG seemed fair and honest. I guess the point I’m trying to make is that I was just like Shades and when it came to farming for the Tome of the Lost Legion because I was quite optimistic and because I relied upon and trusted the rules that Blizzard had already put in place for us to expect. I was wrong.

Should we like this idea of “first to click“ looting?

I’ve been trying to think of another place where a first to click loot system is in place. No, I don’t mean trying to get tickets to Blizzcon, what I mean is…is there a looting style system like this in the game already? I can’t think of one.  Although, I think it would be interesting to try and think about what a dungeon or LFR would be like if and when a boss died if this type of system was in place. Can you imagine what would happen next? Although, if you’re on a low pop server a first to click loot style might benefit you for fights like Oondasta and the other world bosses. We could even take this a step further and put this same loot system in for all questing hub mobs. Yep, grab your loot macro and spam away.

So with all the vile, venom, and vinegar that you can expect from a mean, evil, and despicable warlock – I now present to you my new updated and revised tips to farm for The Tome of the Lost Legion. The tongue in cheek version of course.

Advanced tips to farm The Tomb of the Lost Legion with the “first to click” system

If you’re still wanting to go for the green fire quest line and you want to try to get your greedy hands on a Tome of the Lost Legion, then please take these tips and advice fwiw:

  1. Go farm alone or in a group, but do not go with another warlock if you’re both trying to get a tome
  2. Do not communicate with anyone other than yourself or your group that a rare elite mob is up
  3. Do not use the IoTrares rares addon at all. It’s a great addon, but it works against you. Use it for your alts that need to farm valor.
  4. NPC_Scan is safe to use since it only alerts rare spanws to you and not to anyone else (unless they’re running it too of course)
  5. Try to take down the rare mob with as few people as possible, and try to go unnoticed so others won’t see what’s happening and jump in the fight. This is better done with Ku, All Seeing, Rasha and Mumta.
  6. If there are other warlocks attacking stop dps’ing the mob when its at low health and start spamming a good target loot macro on the easiest to reach keybind you have. Spam that loot macro keybind like there’s no tomorrow and hopefully you’ll get lucky and both the RNG gods and the “first to click” mechanic may bless you and favor your efforts. If you don’t have a loot macro you can just google it and I’m sure there’s plenty out there. I apologize but I’ve never used one nor do I plan to because it’s not my idea of fun or fair.
  7. Burning Rush is a good talent for a speed speed boost for running to click on the bodies faster or for escaping if it’s a PvP server. After you grab the first click from the people who were originally doing the work to take down the mob then hightail it outta there!
  8. I highly recommend taking the Grimoire of Supremacy simply for having the larger sized demons that you can plant on top of the boss to make it more difficult for others to see and loot. In fact, that would also be a good time to pop out your wrathguard or infernals to help block, cover, and hide the fact that you’re single keybind spamming a loot macro rather than spellcasting to help kill the rare mob. You might even consider /yelling and accusing someone else of doing what your doing so other people take notice of them instead of taking notice of you. Make sure to TYPE IN ALL CAPS AS ANOTHER SUBDIVERSION BECAUSE THEY”LL LOOK AT YOUR TEXT AND NOT AT THE FACT YOU’RE SPAMMING A LOOTING MACRO.
  9. The talent Dark Bargain will be another great choice for PvP servers in case the enemy faction decides to AoE
  10. Shadowfury is a win, win, win on PvP server too so you can stun and then killsteal all the things!
  11. Harvest Life for PvP servers is the way to go since you’ll only be standing on the boss the whole time and everyone will be running in to loot it. With the crowds I’m seeing, you’ll have more than enough enemies to stay at full health as you run away from scoring your first to click loot.
  12. Our Demonic Portal and our Demonic Gateways should be placed strategically and timed correctly before the rare mob dies. You can use them for either getting to the elite’s body faster or for a quicker retreat after you killsteal. 
  13. You might want to consider farming these rare mobs over the weekend for two great reasons. 1.) Casual players and 2.) Younger players. Everyone knows that casuals and younger players are mainly on during the weekends, which means they’re much easier prey from which you can killsteal…er…I mean “First to click” loot from all day long.



Things to consider with this new first to click play style

Keep in mind that utilizing these tips and having a good loot macro at your disposal you’ll become quite notorious. Trust me when I say that you’re gonna love annoying everyone including you’re fellow warlock friends as emotes of /spit and /hisses fly at you, but ignore all of the haters. In fact, put those people on ignore while you take a moment and report them for bad play. If you really want to have fun blow them a /kiss and /hug and /love them as they’re screaming at you. Always remember that you’re a warlock and that you were only playing by the rules put in place just for you, and this rare drop. You’re doing nothing wrong by playing this way so have fun Trust me, you’re chest will fill with pride as you watch the vile and hate for you begin to show up in the /trade channels as others talk about your infamy!

A great place to watch trade chat hate about yourself is when you’re at the AH putting the extra tomes you farmed up for sale. Now, if I see any of you putting a tome up for sale for anything less thank $900k gold then I shall find you and burn you to the ground myself. Here’s why: The people with high latency problems will pay for it! Blizzard has given us a golden opportunity here and besides, where would you rather see that gold go? To the void storage NPC? To the reforger? Or would you rather see it deposited in your own altbank accounts? As warlocks, the designers have really given us some loopholes here that we can truly exploit to our advantage and if you mess this up by doing something that might ruin this good thing then the rest of use will report you as a group.

Now go out and be the best despicable and hated warlocks I know you to be. Don’t help each other, steal and take what is yours. If you find players who have no idea how this new system works the better. This is our little secret and so use it and abuse it (and abuse them) to your advantage.


What to do when you do get a tome

Before you begin down you’re new road to riches the first thing you need to do before you start farming for tomes is to go right now and make a level 1 toon on your server’s opposing faction. Give it a really creative name like Tomestealer, Unotakemytome or Notomeforyou or even my favorite Tomeraider. You’ll want to create this level 1 toon well before you ever begin farming for your tomes. When you’re done making your level 1 alt on the opposing side, get on your warlock and immediately head over to the Isle of Thunder and get to farming up a tome or two. Granted, it might take 30-50 rare mobs or more to get your hands on one, but it’s so well worth it for the gold you’ll make!

When your loot macro spamming pays off and wins you your first tome drop, you should immediately /dance and then /cackle. When you’re done celebrating take notice of who you took it from and figure out if it was taken from your faction, or the opposing side’s faction. If it was looted from someone on your faction side make sure to link <The Tome of the Lost Legion> in /general chat first followed by a trite or snarky saying to follow it. Put some creativity into your choice phrase or saying that will make you /cackle uncontrollably such as: <The Tome of the Lost Legion> is now up for bid on the AH. You might consider making your gleeful taunts into a macro too. Next, make sure to slash /laugh as you point at the other player or players you stole (I mean first to click) it from. You might want begin cementing your notorious reputation by announcing in general chat as well as to who the noob was who couldn’t “click to loot” fast enough.

Now, if the player who’s tome you stole…er…first to click came from the opposing faction, here is where that level 1 toon you made at the start really pays off. Go and login on that level 1 toon and then begin /whispering that player asking why they were trying to ninja your loot. This will upset them considerably and they will begin to curse and call you names. Take a few screenshots then put them on ignore. Next, go and report them by noting the time and include your screenshots. When you’re done reporting them, log back over onto your warlock main and put your new tome on the AH and then simply rinse and repeat from there. Yes, my brothers and sisters it’s just that easy. Remember: You’re evil, you’re greedy, and now with this new first to click tome looting method you have the rules working in your favor so make sure to abuse it to it’s fullest potential!

I would say good luck, but with a good loot macro you won’t need it.


Where you can find me

Since my farming endeavors for a tome have been ruined and I could care less now are over for the time being I plan to be gearing up my shaman and Ally lock, and doing dailies on Amijade. I’m going to begin running old dungeons for mounts too because at least with them I feel like I have a far better chance at obtaining one, that is, unless of course they changed the loot system for those drops too. Maybe it’s just me, but I like to know the odds of what I’m up against before I make a decision on where to invest my time in the game. Sorry I put this post out a little early, but I wanted to clear all of the confusion and misinformation on how to loot the tome, and if you happened to use any of the tips I offered last week during my ignorance, then I most humbly offer my sincerest apologies.

Hail All,

I hope your week in WoW wasn’t like mindless grinding as painful as my epic quest in the search for the Tome of the Lost Legion. I’ve devoted several hours each night and so far I’m hitting the 60 hour mark of personal time wasted invested and still no loot drop. I’ve been utilizing the IOTRARES addon from to help me on my endeavors in camping and farming. If you’re unfamiliar with this addon, it’s used for tracking the elite rares that scour the Island. Unlike NPC_Scan it doesn’t alert you to nearby rares. What IOTRARES does do is broadcast out the name of the mob and it’s location across the general chat for others to see. After the elite dies, it begins listing a countdown timer on your screen so that you can guess or estimate as to which one will appear next. It will only add a timer on the mobs that you have taken down as well. Thanks to Nagratz the wicked for his tip on that one!


On the average, I’ve found that the elite rares on the Isle of Thunder are roughly on a 35-45 minute respawn timer. The reason I say roughly is because I’ve never seen one respawn in under 30 mins and I’ve seen some take as long as 1:05 hours, but most are at the 35-45 time frame. I’ve also seen a couple players on various forums mention that Rasha isn’t on the drop list or that he doesn’t drop the tome; however, I know two warlocks who both got their tome drops from him. Maybe I’m crazy, but I think that clears up that confusion. Also, please keep in mind that Rasha’s tag is faction specific so if you see him then attack him before an opposing faction member takes your chance away. For the opposing players who run into the cave while I’m killing the two elite guards and steal my tag on Rasha just know that I look forward to the day when I see you flagged and yes, I’m keeping a list. Trust me on that one!

I’m also of the firm belief that the tome is an individual RNG drop and not based on a “first to loot” system. Here’s why: It was late this past Friday night when I was out farming for the tome when I came upon Goda. I called out in general chat that he was up and I waiting for about 1 minute for others to arrive and I targeted the giant turtle so that IOTRARES posted the information for others to see. The first to arrive by chance was a small group of Alliance players who I could tell were going to attack the moment they got close.


Being superstitious and still uncertain as to the rumors I had heard about I decided to attack Goda first. Hey what can I say? I’m not taking any chances! A few seconds later during the engagement a group of Horde players joined the fight as well. When the smoked cleared I was the first to loot and I got a Tome of Valor and some silver. One of the last to show up to the fight and one of the last to loot was another Horde warlock who I had met during my nightly farming runs and the tome dropped for them. So take that info fwiw.

If you plan to farm for the tome I highly recommend you download and use NPC_Scan along with Iotrares and both can be downloaded from curse. For NPC_Scan you really need to add the NPC ID Numbers for the scan as well. You can find all of the elite rare identification numbers on Wowhead in the comments section of the Tome of the Lost Legion. If you don’t want spoilers on the questline then I don’t recommend reading any farther than Elvador’s great comments and information on locations, scan IDs, Tom Tom info and target macro. /em salutes Elvador

So here’s my quick and dirty list of tome farming tips:

  • Download NPC_Scan from Curse
  • Download Iotrares from Curse
  • Add the Isle of Thunder NPC IDs to your NPC Scan search criteria from Wowhead
  • Set a certain amount of time for farming and don’t overdo it
  • Bring friends because it sure does make the time go easier
  • Communicate with the people in /general chat (yes you might find a troll or two, but a majority are helpful)
  • If you eventually bang your head on your desk make sure to move sharp items out of the way
  • If the monotony gets you down go farm some honor from mages on a battleground, or work on something else productive


I’m not sure if any of this is good advice or not, but I can tell you all of this sure has helped me! Of course I say this and I still haven’t gotten that dang book to drop!

Hail My Fellow Fel Casters,

This week’s post will be brief compared to most. Well, brief for me I suppose. Starting this week I’ll begin working on my small project I’ve mentioned a few times over the past few posts. Well, I plan to start as long as my Outlook and Gmail begin to play nice with one another again. What is this project you ask? Well, I’ve decided to begin posting player profiles of some of the more widely known warlocks throughout the WoW community. It will be a small interview style questionnaire about which specs they enjoy playing, and covering what they enjoy most about being a warlock, and everything else.


Why am I doing this? I think it will be a good idea to show the wide range of players and personalities that share in the love of our wonderful warlock class. I hope the series highlights the fact that not all warlocks are a juvenile delinquent males between the ages of 13-17 years with a penchant towards being emo. Now, if you have any questions you’d like to see added, please let me know and I’ll put it on the list. In fact, I’ll be posting the outline of the questionnaire this weekend and I’ll let all of you help me make the decision of what to include. So please let me know what you think!


The patch is here!

So the 5.2 patch dropped this past Tuesday and it’s been nothing but one big flash, a big bang, and a big flurry of new content and news. Hrm, I wonder if that’s why they call it Isle of Thunder because all of the reverberations it’s left behind? For me, it has become one very long, and over extended camping trip. Many of you know that I’m not planning on giving out any spoilers concerning the quest for our long sought after fel green fire. In fact, up until this point I’ve avoided reading anything about the encounter. Some things for me are better experienced as they happen as compared to reading about them. So I’ve tried to refrain from reading about anything concerning the new warlock quest line. As much as Poneria’s article called, How to get green fire for your Warlock in Patch 5.2 tempted me to read I still can’t believe I refrained from peeking at it, and yes, I wanted to so badly! Well, that was until I logged into my guild vent late Tuesday night.



Oh, where to begin? They say misery loves company, so I hope you’ll allow me to bring you along and share in the experience of repetitive self-abuse and insanity…


How the craziness of farming started and I’m not talking about my farm at Halfhill

Tuesdays are raid night for my raid team. So when we finished for the night I immediately ran out to complete the new daily quest hub. Yep, it was Quel’ danas-ish, and quite Tol Barad-ish, but it was new and shiny so I didn’t mind. I really enjoyed reading the quests and getting caught up in the excitement of it all. The only thing I had heard about the quest for green fire was that the tome above would drop from a random mob. Okay, fine. A random drop from a mob means I’ll have the same chance as everyone else…or so I thought. In my evil little mind I instantly knew that starting on Wednesday I’d be heading out and that I would start farming. I would farm, farm, farm until the Taurens cows came home. I’d rinse and repeat every night until the drop became mine! Mine all mine! Muahahaha!

When I first entered my guild’s main vent channel called, The Shady Tavern, on Wednesday night I was elated. One of my warlock friends named Mycale, immediately told me that he was already nearing the end of his quest line for green fire. Woot! Grats Mycale! Now, if you think I’m crazy for having both a Horde and an Ally warlock, Mycale is even crazier because he has 6+ warlocks. I know that four are on the Earthen Ring, and then I believe his others are scattered on various other servers. All four of his on ER are all level 90, and what’s even more interesting is that he only plays Affliction too. Ha! You gotta love Mycale for his devotion to the class and the spec. And he is now officially the first warlock I’ve met who can wield the power of the fel energies to conjure green fire. /em bows and salutes to Mycale

Oh yeah, I forgot about /General chat

Spurred on by Mycale’s luck, I set out very excited to do my new Isle dailies and begin my farming. Derpy me forgot all about /general chat while being in the zone and that’s where I began to wonder what in the name of Hellfire and green flames all of the chatter was about. This is the kind of stuff I was seeing:

After talking with the warlocks friends in vent, and after watching the chatter unfold every few minutes with people calling out locations and cursings (the kind that aren’t magical spells) I knew this might not bode well. What was even more discombobulating (I love saying that word) was when I began seeing /general chat with postings like this:

Trying to sort it all out

Cluster is a good word. I can also think of another that word that the warlock in me would like to add to it, but for the parent in me, I won’t mention because that’s what seeking the Tome of the Lost Legion had become…a cluster. Within minutes I was having to Alt-tab out of the game and to start consorting with the Twisting Nether to make sense of it all and to try to sort things out. Btw, if you’re a new reader to this site my version of consorting with the Twisting Nether begins by going to goggle and typing in my search words. This time, my incantations and visions led me to Wowhead to read up on the Tomb of the Lost Legion.

Unlike my original understanding of where the Tome of the Lost Legion would drop, I came to find that in reality it was a little bit different. From what I’ve researched the Tome has a very small chance of dropping from any mob out on the new Isle of Thunder, but it appears to have a higher chance to drop from one of the six elite spawns that are spread at various locations on the Island. It also appears that they have about a 40 min respawn timer. Since these mobs are killed at varying times, their respawn order will change too. 

When things got worse

After noting the rare elite locations on the map I returned back to the game to start my new job nightmare of rare elite camping. I must have taken down about 6 – 8 of them for the first time when I started seeing how things were getting worse. I killed the constructor robot called Haywire after I was the first to tag it. When the rare died the game wouldn’t allow me to loot it. “It’s a bug,” someone on vent mentioned, “just run away from the boss until you can’t see it. Run back and then you can loot it.” Oddly enough it worked. Other fixes to the known issue of the loot bug (where you were unable to loot the corpse) were constantly being communicated across the /general chat line. Here’s the list of “loot bug” fixes I compiled together while I camped on the IoT:

  1. Run away until you can’t see the corpse anymore, and then run back
  2. Use your Demonic Portal or your Demonic Gateway
  3. Kill a nearby mob and use the AoE looting feature to reach it
  4. Logoff the game and then log back in



It soon became noticeable that the loot bug seemed to get worse once you made a full circuit of taking down all six mini-bosses for the first time at the start of camping for the night. The running away and returning fix was the one that drove me the most nuts. The reason being is because the distance you had to run varied from mini-boss to mini-boss. You’d spend 1-3 minutes running out and then running back only to find out the hard way that you still were NOT able to loot the corpse. The most upsetting was when none of these work-a-round fixes worked and you had to give up trying to loot the elite mob altogether. Yep, it was painful and no I wasn’t giving up.


Podcasts and computer issues

Rewt and Freckleface from the Hearthcast podcast contacted me and asked if I’d like to take part in doing a Hearthcast AoE. That’s the gameshow portion of their podcast where a visitor on the show competes against one of the hosts in a small WoW trivia game. I was more than happy to take part and it was nice of them to ask. Who did I go up against in this live PvP contest and did I win? Well, you’ll just have to listen to find out ;P

I was also elated to have Fimlys and Hydra, from the Twisted Nether Blogcast, send me an invitation to take part in their Roundtable discussion about the 5.2 patch. The other guests slated to take part was also Navimie from The Daily Frostwolf, Sunnier from Sunnier’s Art of War and Rho over at Realm Maintanence.


Since Rho and Hydra are both warlocks we had quite the discussion concerning the Tome of the Lost Legion and all of the problems surrounding it. Like me, Rho had been camping the rares for the elusive tome too. I’d see him every night alongside all of the others during my camping out on the Isle of Thunder. On the show Rho admitted that he had given up on the idea of continued farming for the drop until the issues were resolved.

Hydra stated that she wasn’t even going to attempt it at this point as well. As for me? Well, I’m going to continue to camp because getting the Tome now has become a small goal. It’s like running a marathon where you have have absolutely no chance at winning, but you compete anyway to motivate and push yourself that you can do it. I had so much fun participating on both shows that I’m glad I didn’t politely decline due to my nervousness over doing any “live” broadcasts.

If anyone has sent me an email over the past two weeks or so I apologize if I haven’t responded. In fact, I apologize because I might have lost it forever. Long story short, I got a computer virus that corrupted my email program and now my Gmail account and my Outlook hate one another. I’ve done a complete reload on Outlook and I still can’t get it to work! I’ll hope to have it fixed by this weekend!


How has all of this farming played out?

The weekly maintenance came and went and it appears that Blizzard has fixed many of the issues people were experiencing. I haven’t had a looting problem yet which is good news, but I still haven’t seen a tome drop with my own eyes. Two nights ago I had just finished my new IoT dailies and was getting ready to begin my camping endeavors when I saw in /general chat that Progentius was up. My phone rang and rather than run after the tag I parked my toon at the bottom of the hill and went /afk to answer my phone. I came back 2 minutes later and it turns out that Rho had looted the Tome from the kill! OMG! Woot! Hahahahaha! :P Gratsie Rho. /em cheers while pounding face on desk

Just a few hours after Rho getting his tome, I got a tweet from Hydra, but rather than tell you all about it I’ll just show it to you:


OMG! WFT?! Hahahah! Gratsie Hydra! I’m not going to comment on this one because I might have to switch from banging my head on a desk to pounding myself with a hammer. I’m very happy for her though. That might just be one of the luckiest and best proc stories I’ve heard in a long time. /em salutes



Omg! I just realized when or if ever I get done getting the Tome of the Lost Legion to drop for my horde warlock, I’m gonna have to rinse and repeat on my Ally toon toon as well! Bah! Howdy All,

Well, it’s almost here. Patch 5.2 will be bringing more changes, more content, and more reasons to feel overwhelmed. Is it me or am I the only one who feels like I’ve fallen behind in so many different ways? No worries though because after a few weeks we’ll all be back into a normal routine of grinding and questing again. What feels odd and weird at the start of the patch will soon become the new normal and trust me, it won’t be so bad.


Let’s focus on the good stuff we can look forward to:

  • Warlock’s will have an epic quest line
  • There will be new areas to explore
  • There’s new quests lines, and new things to do
  • New lore storylines will be unfolding and old ones will be tying up loose ends
  • We have new raid content to tackle
  • There’s two new world bosses to conquer
  • There’ll be more shiny new loot
  • There’s going to be plenty of new adventures with to share with friends


Oh yes, there will be some changes

I don’t think I’ve ever experienced a major patch and not had a few things change. I’m an old warlock ya know, and I can often be remiss in my memories so if I’ve overlooked an occasion where a patch didn’t bring some kind of change please correct me. Like all large content patches there’s going to be a buff here and a nerf there, and enough small tweaks for all the classes to go around. I didn’t taken part in the PTR so I can’t give an opinion as to what I think people will favor other than what I read.


In the latest patch notes (as of 2/25/13) on is the full rundown of warlock revisions. This is a cut, copy and paste of those changes along with my take on how I see things playing out so to speak ;) Is this the final change? I have no idea, but being this close to the patch I’m guessing it’s pretty darn close to what we’ll see implemented. My apologies for the wall of text!

  1. Fel Armor now reduces damage taken by 10%, instead of increasing the Warlock’s armor. I see this as a number nudging and fudging and it won’t be too noticeable by most
  2. Blood Fear has been replaced by Blood Horror. Blood Horror costs 5% health, has 1 charge, and lasts 60 seconds with a 30-second cooldown. While Blood Horror is active, melee attacks that strike the Warlock will cause the attacker to be horrified for 4 seconds. I have to admit this one hurts, but we’ll still have our normal Fear spell with a 1.7 sec cast time we can use as well. Yes, this spell re-work might have changed due to PvP balance, but it’s still a nerf to me because I loved me my Blood Fear!. I read somewhere that the Blizzard’s original intention for BF was to be a defensive cooldown instead of the offensive weapon it became. Well, this new rework of Blood Fear into Blood Horror will make that a reality. While questing my tanking demon often has no problem with aggro and in dungeons and in raids my tank lead will do the same. If the new questing hub really is like a new Isle of Quel’danas then it might be a viable option since mob respawns and aggro were quite an annoyance common. If that’s the case, I might go with either Burning Rush or Unbound Will  as well depending on the situation. I haven’t read if the Blood Horror talent will have a special effect associated with it like our Dark Bargain talent. I hope it doesn’t mainly for PvP. Nothing is worse than having a cool defensive spell only to have a huge graphic broadcast it to your enemies. Maybe rogues should get a cool new graphic that never goes away when they Vanish? We can only hope.
  3. Burning Rush now also prevents movement-impairing effects from reducing the Warlock’s movement speed below 100% of normal, in addition to its other effects. This is nice, but it should have been this way from the start. It’s still a “Meh” IMHO.
  4. The Imp ability Blood Pact has been removed. The Blood Pact buff is gone and now it’s added to Dark Intent. You won’t just need an imp for the stamina buff anymore and every ‘lock spec can benefit from it. What’s not to like?
  5. Dark Intent now increases Stamina in addition to Spell Power. Warlocks will basically now have Power Word: Fortitude. We lose Blood Pact and we gain it back in Dark Intent. Nothing lost there other than simplifying buffs.
  6. Immolate now deals 20% more damage. This change buffs Destro’s filler spell so now all of our destructive peers can do more damage. I can’t argue with this one.
  7. Shadow Bolt now deals 15% more damage. This change buffs Demonology’s filler spell. No complaints here.
  8. Soul Leech now provides an absorption shield instead of healing. Like our Fel Armor changes I see this as number nudging and fudging. In a small way this kinda sucks because now I won’t show up on the list of top healers in recount ;)
  9. Sacrificial Pact now requires the pet to sacrifice 25% of its health to activate (was 50%). This is a nice buff to this talent. It will definitely make me consider using it more often, especially with the changes to the Grimoire of Sacrifice talent since I may consider actually using my demons in fights vs. sacrificing them for the buff. It also means that he differences between Grimoire of Sacrifice and Grimoire of Supremacy has been blurred so that their dps numbers are closer and more in line with one another. I really do want to go back to raiding with my Fel puppy again. I sure him! It’s so quiet without his drooling and snarling!
  10. Kil’jaeden’s Cunning is now a passive talent, and its activated ability has been removed. I know that some people might have swapped talents out of Tier 6 depending on the situations, but everyone LOVES utilizing this talent and Blizzard’s numbers must show this as well for them to make this kind of change. Eventually, I’m sure that all casting classes will be going to some kind of movement + casting style and getting away from the old dps turrent style of play. The question is would it be fair for our melee friends?
  11. The passive damage from Archimonde’s Vengeance no longer has a visual effect. Does anyone really care about this one? I won’t miss it, trust me. I just wish Blizzard removed the Glyph of Banish along with it. Do you know anyone who uses the Glyph of Banish? Do any PvPers out there find it useful? Please, let me know if you do because I still haven’t found anyone who utilizes it.
  12. Grimoire of Sacrifice now increases the damage of abilities by 15% (was 25%) for Destruction Warlocks and 35% (was 50%) for Affliction Warlocks. In addition, it now provides the spell Whiplash instead of Seduction when a Succubus is sacrificed. This is a nerf to the Grimoire of Sacrifice which I have to admit I like. While I’m sure we can agree that a nerf to any of our abilities isn’t always the most ideal I do hope this will make both the GoSac and the Grimoire of Supremacy talents on par with one another for dps output. Some locks hated the idea of sacrificing their minions for raiding, and some liked it. I was on the fence about it, but I am nostalgic for running with my minions. This change should give us a choice of choosing either Gosac or GoSupreme without getting penalized. The added change for our command demon spell using the GoSac talent with a Succubus is also a no-brainer and should’ve been hotfixed a few months back. This small change will make sacrificing a Succubus a viable choice for both PvP and PvE.
  13. Glyph of Burning Embers has been removed and its effects are now baseline for Destruction Warlocks. This is great to see and was needed for what was basically a mandatory glyph for Destro.
  14. Glyph of Soul Shards has been removed and its effects are now baseline for Affliction Warlocks. This is great to see and was needed for what was another mandatory glyph for Afflocks.
  15. New Glyph: Glyph of Ember Tap. This glyph increases the healing gained from Ember Tap by 33%, but the health is restored over 10 seconds. A decent change for Destro. Is it huge or a game changer? Nope. Is it another way for a Destro ‘lock to stay alive and keep on fighting? You bet! You can call it another cookie, or you can call it another HoT, but remember it’s another chance to take a licking and keep on ticking! Warlocks are notorious for staying alive and this helps keep up that image.
  16. New Glyph: Glyph of Drain Life. This glyph increases the healing gained from Drain Life by 30%. I look forward to playing around with this glyph when it goes live. I’d like to try it out before I cast judgment on it and it’s uses. I can imagine this glyph’s uses in questing, pvp and single target fights, but then again I’m taking a wait and see attitude because I’m not sure if it will affect our Harvest Life in any way. Since I haven’t read anything on that possibility it’s useless for me to speculate until I see otherwise.
  17. Glyph of Unstable Affliction has been redesigned. This glyph now reduces the cast time of Unstable Affliction by 25%. Going from a 1.5 second cast time down to about a 1.125 second cast time makes me think it’s for PvP balancing because I don’t see it being a game changer in PvE.





  • Unstable Affliction’s backlash effect is now always a critical hit and deals approximately 15% more damage. Affliction PVPers have to love this!


  • Chaos Wave now has a new visual – I liked the Chaos Wave spell effect as it was and I have no idea why it needed changing. If anyone knows the reasoning here please toss me a link where I can read up on it. 
  • Hand of Gul’dan now deals 15% more damage – An increase to a Demo DoT? Woot, I’ll take it.
  • Shadowflame now deals 15% more damage. Another Woot!
  • Soul Fire now deals 22% more damage. Okay fine. I guess we’ll just cope with taking another nice buff.
  • Touch of Chaos now deals 15% more damage. This appears to bringing HoG and ToC in line with one another otherwise it would mean more Metamorphosis stance changing.
  • Wild Imp’s Firebolt now deals 15% more damage. Another buff in damage for Demo, but Demonic Fury regen should remain the same since each wild imp only casts 10 Firebolts and each bolt only generates 5 DF. Keep in mind this is a damage increase only.



  • Conflagrate now deals 20% more damage. A buff for Destro! Can’t complain here. Desto PvP locks have got to be frothing at the mouth for this to be in the game already!
  • Fire and Brimstone now has a radius of 10 yards (was 15 yards). A small nerf in an AoE’s footprint, but let’s be honest in the fact that it’s probably due to PvP balance. Will it hurt for PvE on trash? Maybe a little bit, but most trash are usually grouped up and burned down anyway (No pun intended). Now, a Destro ‘lock will pause and wait a few seconds for a tank to gather up all the things before they unleash their wrath. Hrm, what’s waiting a few extra seconds when you can still go to town and burn’em down? It might just be a perfect time to cast a cackle laugh macro.
  • Incinerate now deals 10% more damage. Another small buff for a filler spell and another nice tweak to bringing Destro up in it’s numbers.


How do I view the changes overall?

Besides some of the small tweaks for PvP, I have to admit I like what I’m reading so far because it looks like a good move towards balance among our specs so that they’re closer in dps. I really do like the idea of a pure dps class having all three of their specs being on par with one another for both PvE and PvP, but that could just be me. While I have seen some Destro and Demo locks putting out good numbers in LFR and in heroics, a majority of ‘locks that I see are only running Affliction with GoSacrifice for most of the fights. I think it’s safe to say these revisions will allow players to bring their spec of choice to a run as compared to something they feel forced into playing because it’s been tested out in generating higher numbers.


Why I’m feeling a little pity towards Mages

Warlocks vs. Mages. The great debate between our two classes been a long running joke ever since I can remember. Yes, I know warlocks are superior in a variety of ways and I know I’m not being biased at all with my facts ;) however, I’m actually finding myself feeling sorry for the Mage class lately. If you can stand long enough to talk with a mage, you’ll hear about the struggles their class is going through right now with spells, specs and rotations. Granted, I could be wrong in what I’m seeing and it could be scoffed off as RNG, but when I ran all of my LFRs for this week, I saw 2 mages or less in all of them except for ToES where there wasn’t even one. In those same LFR groups there was anywhere from 4 to 6 warlocks in attendance. Even on my home server of Earthen Ring a small group of friends were helping another friend and fellow guildy gear up by throwing together a quick a Sha group run. We looked for warm bodies help in both guild chat, general chat, and in trade chat. Despite all of our recruiting efforts to fill spots up for the run we wound up having 8 warlocks show up and no mages at all. Zero, zilch, nada, none!

Despite my snarkiness and kidding of mages, I still dislike seeing this trend occur to any class. Competition and variety is a good thing despite what some may think. So let me be the first to say that I hope for the fun of the game, and for the benefit of mage players everywhere that I hope their issues and problems don’t end up like the problems we, as warlocks, faced less than 1 year ago. If this trend I’m seeing with mages continues then I believe the game will suffer for it, and sadly I might just feel some guilt when I poke fun of them in the future. So for now, I’m going to lay low on the mage jokes. When things turn around for them, I’ll go back to my abusing teasing of them. Trust me, I’m a warlock and why would I have to lie about something like that?

My biggest concern (and it might be selfish of me) is if the mage class numbers decline then who’s gonna buy all of those ugly green level multi-colored pastel transmog items I sell on the AH? Dear Blizzard, please bring back the 1, 1, 1, 2 rotation for mages because your current efforts to add more buttons for them doesn’t appear to be working as intended.
